ISOR supports all who live nomadic lives, whether culturally or ethnically. Mobile living or moveable accommodation might be part of their daily life, or a heritage that manifests at important times such as seasonal rituals of movement. Either way, we pursue a united approach and are interested in issues that affect all who live within, or have ties to, nomadic culture.

We support these people in their pursuit of security, liberty, expression and the rights of free movement and congregation. We campaign for the discovery of common ground that can be found through the experiences of cultural diversity. And we seek to investigate new possibilities for literal ‘common ground’ to replace the universal access to land that has been dismantled over the centuries.

We offer tangible help to people whose nomadic heritage or way of life is at issue, across a wide range of contexts. From health and welfare improvement, to media representation, to the security and environment of existing sites and stopping places, and new possibilities for organic and sustainable living, ISOR is interested in helping bring about concrete improvements and nurture new skill sets, knowledge and qualifications to these communities.

We also aim to improve understanding between ’settled’ and nomadic cultures. Itinerant labour has always played crucial roles in society, many of which go unsung or even unnoticed. We seek to promote knowledge of this fact and draw on the deep expertise in sustainable, organic culture of those who have lived close to the land through the ages to the present day.
