A series of 11 short films from Autumn 2020 #SmallActsOfHopeAndLamentA daily outdoor practice in the park filmed on a mobile phone, propped on a tree or in a hole in the ground. Movement as a primary language, and a means through which to fall deeply in love with the land. A way of thinking, sensing, feeling and relating to the world, a kind of environmental visceral way of knowing.
The films – the text and the movement – capture what was present and live at the time, in the conversation between environment and body, and the chance and circumstance of the day. Igniting a flickering for the necessity of movement and moving in our lives as a fundamental resource that nourishes, supports, extends and contains us physically, emotionally and socially; and as a way to nurture, and notice our green space, to understand, feel and make sense of a place, connect to earth and to sky, to respect and belong.
Movement is not valued and normally commodified and the Earth needs deeply and urgently cared for. It is all there for the asking and belongs to us all.
My wish is to share and pass on to others, this capacity of the body for movement.
It is simply, available, uncomplicated.
To dance outside wild and free, to find strength and be nourished.
To pour out our grief and our rage or to celebrate, delight, and deeply immerse in the land, connecting through moving, present in yourself and to nature.
If you are daunted, or being outdoors feels too much, or if you need a helping hand we can do this together, quietly and gently.
And when we are able, to come together to move we can celebrate, generate, lament, strengthen, bond, build community, or protest, demonstrate and declare.
I am here, ready and willing, to work with what you have, big or small.
Be in touch, anytime
There is wisdom in the body and in the land.
Hope everyone is well and finding ways through now, and in days and months to come
Janice
PS. Apologies the films are not audio described. I very much hope they will be soon
